Macau, which is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is situated in east Asia, comprises a peninsula and two islands (Taipa and Coloane) connected by bridges. It is an area of land on the coast of China, a stone's throw from Hong Kong. The people of Macau are a mix of Chinese and Portuguese. Their cultures, history, architecture and religion is a fusion of east and west. Although it is a small area, Macau is packed with rich feasts and festivals, ancient buildings, beaches, gardens and parks. Also an international shopper's delight and a hotspot of casinos (open 24 hours a day). Macau is peppered with churches (a hint of eastern flair in some of the architecture), temples, shrines, forts and museums. Depending on the time of your visit you may be exposed to the Feast of the Drunken Dragon or The Feast of the Hungry Ghosts - surely an experience not to be forgotten!!
